If the main subject of a photograph appears blurred and undefined while another part of the image is sharply rendered, the defective print is out fo focus. Adjusting the focus allows a photographer to shift the emphasis in the picture plane, highlighting elements in the foreground, background, or middle ground, without having to move. One achieves this by altering the distance between the camera’s focus lens and the negative inside the camera. Careful attention to this setting will ensure that the primary subject registers clearly and sharply.
