motion blur

\ ’mō-shən\ \ ‘blər\

While a photograph usually aims to arrest the movement of an object, if the object moving too quickly, it will register on film as a blur. This is due to the fact that photographs cannot capture frozen moments in time, but rather very short durations. If the camera is held stationary, the moving object may also appear elongated or otherwise distorted. To avoid this, photographers should use a fast shutter speed, adequate lighting, and highly sensitive film.
